With the release of Liquid Lemur 3.0, we are working our way back to the Lemur of old. And that is, a base distro (OS) from which a user can build upon.
For those that remember the early Lemurs, this will be nothing new. For those new to Lemur, let me explain...
Liquid Lemur uses a control center (settings type app) known as APEman. The APE part stands for Add-ons, Projects, Editions. The man part is short for manager. Lemur will be released with a handful of default apps and everything needed to make it run. There will be no Office suite, graphics apps, music apps, etc. pre-installed. Lemur will be a semi-streamlined base and you can install all the extras after installing it to your PC, via APEman. This was popular with the old Lemurs because it allowed you, the user, to decide what apps you preferred. This release (Lemur 3.0 - A1) started the process of getting back to the old Lemur. No Office suite is installed. The next release Liquid Lemur 3.0 - A2 will have Lemur back to the old ways.
I know there are pros and cons to this approach. I know not everyone will agree, but I think it's the best approach for Lemur. In addition to being able to install the extras from APEman, I am rewriting the Lemur Welcome app that runs after installing Lemur to the PC. You will be able to install the basic extras from the Welcome app. Also, at some point, you will be able to select to install the extras from within the Lemur Installer app.
The APEman app is currently being coded to handle these changes. I'm making a completely new Welcome app as well. Look for these changes and updates to take place in the next release.
